Glad to help. I have been in the industry since leaving University 10 years ago and it can be a fun Industry if you get in with the right company.

My company works for IT companies generating appointments for their sales team to go on. So the focus on all of my calls is to get that appointment. You need good communication skills - I speak to a range of decision makers from IT managers at small companies to CFO's/CIO's at major multinational blue chips, and the approach needed varies. However, so long as you are professional and polite, and get your message across quickly and succintly you should be OK. Remember everyone has their own style and the people I work with all use different methods to get the results. The best way of learning is to do it and find out what works for you.

Although my work is primarily within the IT field, you do not need to have an indepth knowledge of IT (thats for the client who go on the meeting), so long as you can sell the benefits of the prospect meeting (ie improved performance, reduced costs, etc) with the client then you will get results.

Also don't get disheartened when people say NO (it happens a lot), remember that a NO means you are one call closer to a YES!!

The best advice I can give is to do it and keep doing it, learning as you go (I have been doing it for 10 years an am still learning). Listen to other people an pick up their tips and tricks.
