Soli Deo Gloria - Back to Basics

  • Rating: No Rating
I've got mixed feelings about New Year's resolutions. While I believe that it's a good idea to evaluate your life and decide to improve things, I also believe (and statistics support) that people are too cavalier about making and breaking resolutions. I once taught a fitness program that my friend and I developed. It was called Resolution Fitness. In it, we described that true resolutions should be lifelong, written in stone decisions. I think the word "resolution" carries with it a sense of changing course or direction in one's life. I think the word implies similar sentiments as the word "repent".

In order to make a true resolution and not the half-hearted, watered-down version we here and read so much about, it is essential to ensure the resolution is in line with God's plan for our life. In order to know that, we must be in constant communication with our Lord. This brings us to two, critical disciplines: prayer and immersion in God's Holy word - the Bible.

My personal resolution for this year is to start with the basics and grow from there. I plan to read God's Word daily and spend more time in prayer. I also plan to get back to keeping a journal of my prayers and Gods response. I challenge anyone willing to do the same to chronicle your journey with me in this blog. I love to hear how God works in people's lives.

Soli Deo Gloria!
